There are new BIGbins popping up in cities, towns and villages all over Ireland and they’re proving to be a game changer for people who find themselves with extra rubbish.

When the sun comes out, we often find ourselves generating extra waste by having get togethers like barbecues, outdoor dinner and drinks and all manner of events that require more food and beverages than we’d usually have. This is where the BIGbin comes in so handy.

If you’re having a barbecue and your family have headed off, leaving a mess behind them, you don’t have to worry about filling the black bin earlier than usually. Simply fill two standard sized black sacks and bring them to your nearest BIGbin station. You can find your nearest bin here. Then, all you have to do is buy a ticket (or use credit from your online BIGbin account) for the bin. It’s €8 for general waste and €5 for recycling. Each ticket allows you to fit two standard sized black sacks in the bin and you’ll get more in the bin by doing the usual squishing that you’d do at home.

The BIGbin is even better if you’re having a staycation this year. Let’s say you’re going camping or spending time at a caravan park. On site waste facilities are sometimes not what they should be, if they’re even there at all. You can take all your waste and bring them to the nearest BIGbin to ensure that you (a) you have a clean holiday and (b) you can dispose of your waste safely, efficiently, cheaply and almost as importantly…legally!
